POST 4: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME
Well, my study program works differently from other university courses. Musical Interpretation has two main stages, the basic stage and the superior stage. The upper stage corresponds to the real undergraduate, but the basic stage is in the middle, you are in the university but at the same time you are not really a university student, that in the paperwork is always confusing. On the other hand, depending on the specialty (musical instrument chosen) the basic stage can have different durations, in my case, the basic piano stage lasts 8 years, and there are 2 subjects that would be piano and musical theory. This stage is a requirement to go to undergraduate, however, I think it is a bit problematic.
The basic stage is designed to be carried out during the children's school studies, so its load cannot be much. The problem is that as the instrument progresses, more knowledge of other subjects such as harmony, music history and musical analysis is required, and this knowledge is necessary in the basic stage, but it is not taught in any subject. Only in the undergraduate stage do you begin to teach analysis, harmony, history, and it seems to me that this greatly delays the learning of the instrument.
I think there should be courses that address these topics in an introductory way to have a first approach to these topics, that would be something that I would definitely change in my study plan.
In my experience, I feel that this lack of previous knowledge that the study plan does not give you, affected me during the development of my musical training when I was younger, and now that I am just taking these subjects I think about what it would have been like to know this before .
Another thing that I would change in my study plan would be that there were subjects on injuries in musicians, it is a very important subject that is not taught at the university, I would also add subjects on the use of technological tools for musical writing, such as the use of Finale applications. I would also add cultural management subjects, knowledge that I think is very necessary for musicians, and also English courses that are focused on musical vocabulary, to communicate about our subjects in master classes with international teachers or at festivals.
There is still much to improve in this study plan, I hope that for the next generations there will be great changes.
